From the beginning of the war until March 11, about 300,000 people fled from Ukraine to Moldova, although the authorities claimed to be able to accept only 10,000. By March 16, the number of refugees had decreased to 99,000 people, which was over 5% of the population of Moldova. Accommodation, fundraising and collection of basic necessities, medical and legal assistance became an acute problem.
Refugee support centres have been operating in Moldova since the beginning of the war. We have compiled a list of centres, fundraising campaigns, and other initiatives you can choose from to help refugees.
Moldova for Peace Project hosts and helps accommodate migrants from Ukraine. The project has been launched by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Government of Moldova. They work in several directions, which include coordination of volunteers, provision of transportation and accommodation, as well as supply of essential goods and services.
How you can help:
provide transportation,
give free shelter to refugees,
buy and donate essential goods to volunteer centres,
work in the warehouses, distribute donations,
give legal advice,
provide medical/psychological support,
become a support line operator,
help at border checkpoints.
SOS Украiнцi Молдова is another group where refugees can seek help. The information about what help is needed is posted directly to the feed, so you can directly help those in need.
