Alexander Lukashenko wants to accelerate the regulation of cryptocurrencies and digital tokens. He discussed this at a meeting today, according to his press service.
Lukashenko stated that he issued such orders two years ago but has yet to see any results.
«God willing, we will succeed in setting this trend without putting the cart before the horse. The state’s task in these conditions is to establish clear, transparent rules and control mechanisms in this field. This is important as it’s a new direction for the country. That’s why, back in 2023, I issued a series of directives to ensure comprehensive regulation of digital tokens and cryptocurrencies. However, I still don’t have any agreed documents on my desk,» he said.
Lukashenko reminded the audience that the creation, issuance, and trading of tokens are currently regulated by the High-Tech Park (HTP). But audits by the State Control Committee show that half of the money invested in tokens and crypto does not return to the country.
«As the State Control Committee reports to me, the results of unscheduled inspections of crypto platform operators indicate the need for some finer or more robust oversight of such activities. In particular, violations in the registration of financial transactions have been identified. Money from Belarusian investors that is transferred abroad does not return in half of all cases. This situation cannot continue,» the politician noted.
According to him, today’s digital sphere is outpacing the regulations governing it, creating the need for new areas of law. He wants to «clearly define the tasks of government bodies and the HTP in the field of crypto technologies.» He also aims to outline key regulatory aspects so investors can «continue to work securely and confidently in our digital harbor.»
