How to help Ukrainians from Germany

Project How to Stand with Ukraine was launched to help people from different countries support Ukraine. In this guide, we are talking about ways of supporting Ukrainians in Germany.

Berlin is the first destination for many Ukrainian refugees in Germany, so most recommendations will cover this city.  If you have more details about other cities or have something to add about Berlin, write to [email protected], and we will include it in this guide.

Accommodation

Offer accommodation for Ukrainian refugees (in any city in Germany):

Volunteering

Hauptbahnhof (Berlin railway station) and ZOB (central bus station) are the most important volunteer centers right now. There you can meet the refugees, help them with interpreting and finding accommodation. Ukrainian- and Russian-speaking volunteers are in great demand there.

Humanitarian aid is also collected at these locations. There is always a need for medicines, soap/shampoo/shower gel, food, face masks, baby food, and diapers. You can also download this file with all the important info in Ukrainian, Russian, and English to hand it out at train stations and volunteer centers as a handy memo for people coming from Ukraine.

You can also bring humanitarian aid to these collection points in Berlin:

  1. «Mriya»: Pilecki-Institut, Pariser Platz 4a, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
  2. Nathanael-Kirche: Grazer Platz, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Sunday.

What to bring:

  • Medications
  • Support for civilian volunteers defending their cities in Ukraine
  • Food and hygiene products

Where to find volunteer organizations?

  1. Ukraine Help Berlin. Fill out the registration form and get connected with people who need help. Volunteer anywhere in Germany: specify your city, how you can help, and leave your contact info.
  2. International movement Ukraine Now. Fill out the volunteer application form from anywhere in Germany. Specify what you can help with: providing housing or work, driving people around the country, etc. The website is available in Ukrainian and English.

Telegram channels

You can also offer support, find current help requests, and coordinate with other volunteers via Telegram chats.

How else can I help?

  • Book an Airbnb rental in Ukraine to support the apartment owners.
  • Donate blood. You can do this at Charité, Berlin’s largest hospital, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Participate in a demonstration — see schedule here.
  • If you are a healthcare professional, you can add your information to the chart. Fill in your specialization, phone number, e-mail address, and languages you speak.

In the following materials, we will talk about how to help Ukrainian refugees in Georgia, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, and other countries. Share your volunteer experience with us, we will tell you about it.

The project was prepared by the Klats-Klats content agency, which is part of the dev.media group. The agency makes partner projects of any format and publishes them on dev.by, dev.ua, bbbl.dev and other platforms.
